The transfer of Cine film to DVD is now offered by many .
Note that the only tape media that will produce DVD quality on disc is transferred from full spec’ DV video cameras.
16 mm/ 8mm cine film will transfer readily ,BUT ,can only achieve
Sub 500 line definition on Disc..( Although 16 mm stock, well recorded, will be close to it. ) SVHS, HI 8 & CSHVS tape will give very good NR DVD Quality If transferred correctly.
Cine films of Standard 8 / 9.5 mm Pathe format are our speciality
Often they will need to be cleaned, but only if really necessary.
This will removed dirt, provide anti -static properties and lubricate the film. We use a professional product well established in the industry. Many Standard 8 cameras of the 1940’s & 1950’s were manufactured to a high standard and the film gates were plated metal holding the film very flat in the optic path. Camera optics also could be from high grade optical glass and only a few Super 8 cameras later on ( 1960’-80’s) were built to the same standard for the amateur film maker and very expensive for the average user. ( we can supply a sample disc of good Standard 8
transfer if you are really enthusiastic about the preservation of your 8 mm archive. ....
