The transfer of Standard 8 sound film to DVD is now becoming difficult as machines in good working order are hard to find. The process can be done with video cameras ( not recommended) or by frame by frame digital transfer units which take a series of rapid sequential still frames and then blend them.( in my opinion the film then looses its fidelity due to digital manipulation. )
OUR METHOD ... Project the film with a quality, 8 mm sound projector on to an image prism and then capture the image via a analogue / digital converter with a built in time base corrector DIRECT to hard drive as a AVI file... This has little if any loss of quality and the film retains its natural look....... ( I use a 3 million pixel CCD imager with an adjustable frame rate. no flicker! )
This is low cost equipment( when compared with a professional Tele / cine unit ) gives excellent results on DVD ARCHIVE DISC ( Standard 8 cine film is not DVD quality but when transferred with this method it can produce a result 90% of its original definition.
NB ARCHIVE DISC = TAIYO_JUDEN PROFESSIONAL DVD - R (Japan )
